Course content

Complementary course for health care professionals with education from outside the EU/EEA. The courses are approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health. ONLY 3 attempts to pass the courses or equivalent education are approved.

The course is intended for health care professionals with education from outside the EU/EEA who require a completed course on Norwegian health services, health legislation and society (Kurs i nasjonale fag) and/or a course in safehandling of medicine in order to obtain a Norwegian authorization.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health evaluates qualifications and grants authorization to health care professionals operating in Norway. For health care professionals with education from outside the EU/EEA, additional requirements need to be fulfilled before authorization can be granted. Completing a course on Norwegian health services, health legislation and society (Kurs i nasjonale fag) or an equivalent course approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health is one such requirement. In addition, medical practitioners, nurses, dentists and pharmacists with education from outside the EU/EEA need to complete a course in safehandling of medicine.

The courses at Norwegian University College of Health Sciences are approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health as an equivalent to the course on Norwegian health services, health legislation and society (Kurs i nasjonale fag) and the course in safehandling of medicine. Potential candidates are referred to The Norwegian Directorate of Health for information regarding the application process and requirements for authorization before applying to Norwegian University College of Health Sciences.
